The Women's Kickboxing Fit Class teaches basic Boxing, Kickboxing and Self-Defense techniques while performing a variety of cardio drills including striking pads, punching bags, or circuit training drills. This class also incorporates conditioning exercises that will target several different muscle groups such as your abdomen, glutes, arms and legs to name a few! This class is a great self confidence boost and the best workout you will get in Statesville! Running on a treadmill gets boring, and you will find that you need more than your music to keep you motivated. Endless studies have proven you are more likely to achieve your fitness goals when you are among others who have similar goals rather than exercising alone in a boring room. We guarantee you WILL leave this class feeling empowered to take on the world!

Some people may never consider giving Kickboxing a try, for fear of many reasons. If you are scared to try a Kickboxing class, PLEASE read the following tips that will strike out all of your excuses!

COME CHECK OUT THE STUDIO!

You are welcome to visit the studio prior to class to become familiar with the atmosphere and the instructors. You can even observe a class first if you'd like.

JUST SHOW UP!

Trying something new and different can be scary and intimidating! All you need to do is get there and walk through the doors! Everyone has their 1st day, 1st week, 1st month. Everyone here was a beginner at some point and has been in your shoes. It takes a lot of courage to try something new, but the power and accomplishment you feel when you get through the training is an AMAZING feeling!

COMMUNICATION

TKO has wonderful and welcoming veteran members who are helpful and provide guidance throughout your workout. It is always exciting for the instructors and current members alike to see new faces! Let someone know this is your first class and I know they will be happy to help you along!

CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT

During our Kickboxing workout, we will also incorporate cross training exercises. This means you will be up and down, on and off the floor doing all types of exercises. Wear supportive clothing that you will not need to keep readjusting. That way your clothing will not interfere with your workout. No shoes are required!! Yes, show off those pretty toes! You will be barefoot for the entire workout and be on cushioned mats.

Our TKO Pro Shop is stocked with the appropriate boxing gloves and hand wraps you will need for class! We also have TKO tanks, t-shirts and hoodies.

BE READY TO HIT!

In the Women's Kickboxing Fit Class, you will be striking targets, such as heavy bags, ground bags, and Thai Pads. This type of resistance training provides for more calories burned, more sweat, and....it's just more fun!! You will learn basic self-defense using boxing, kicking, knees and elbows. If you've never punched something as hard you can, you have NO IDEA just how good it feels!! Kickboxing is an awesome way to relieve stress and start fresh!

DON'T OVER DO IT

When you are new to Kickboxing, aim to attend 2-3 classes per week. You will be sore (it's a good sore)! Your arms, shoulders, legs, back, and abs will definitely feel it! You are using muscles you didn't realize you had. It will take some time for your body to adjust to the new activity, so you will need to allow time for your body to recover. It takes time to build up a strong stamina and endurance; but it's okay to be a beginner! It's okay to go easy, take breaks, and catch your breath. Just remember that one day your workout will be your warmup!

YOU WILL GET A BREAK

The Kickboxing workout is conducted in Rounds (segments of time) with short breaks in between. Use this time to catch your breath, grab a sip of water, and then be ready to hit it hard the next round!

BRING THESE

Water: Stay hydrated. Water tastes oh so good during your breaks!
Towel: If you do Kickboxing class right, YOU WILL SWEAT.
Safe place for jewelry: Rings, bracelets, earrings, and watches don't mix well with Kickboxing. Rings can hurt your hands while punching and you will need your gloves to fit comfortably around your wrists.
Ponytail: Keep those locks pulled back! Your hair will get messy during your workout. You don't want to lose precious workout time to manage flyaway hair.

GIVE IT TIME

Kickboxing is a different type of fitness than most people are used to. Trying new things can be overwhelming and frustrating, so give it time. Keep coming to class and give yourself a chance to learn and love something new and different.

BRING A FRIEND AND MAKE FRIENDS

It is exciting to meet and be surrounded by people who share your interests! If you can convince a friend to come with you to class-DO IT! They may fall in love with it too! If you are the only one you know of who may be interested in Kickboxing, then just sign up and DO IT! You are guaranteed to meet a lot of new people and make new friendships with people who are sure to inspire you!

INSPIRATION

If you are still afraid of trying Kickboxing....I challenge you to be confident in yourself and DO IT! It is so empowering mentally, spiritually, and physically. You never know who you are inspiring when you show up. I know that all our students have personal challenges, certain struggles and day-to-day obstacles, but every time I see their faces, I know that they have chosen to show up because they value their health and well-being....and they inspire me! We all inspire each other! We each have classes where we are just not up for the challenge, but we each also have classes where we achieve goals and make progress. When you show up to class, you are encouraging others, encouraging friends and even encouraging total strangers!

I hope these tips will encourage you to be brave and try Kickboxing at TKO. I love Kickboxing and I truly believe in the core principles that martial arts is based upon: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Respect. Kickboxing has changed my life and health for the better! It is my hope that you will allow me to share Kickboxing with you!
